Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Ethnic-based political parties have played a significant role in shaping electoral outcomes in Nigeria, particularly in areas with diverse ethnic groups like Jalingo Local Government, Taraba State. The role of these parties often extends beyond promoting specific political ideologies to representing the interests of particular ethnic communities. This study will assess the impact of ethnic-based political parties on electoral outcomes in Jalingo, exploring how these parties influence voter preferences, political alliances, and party competition during elections (Yusuf & Ibrahim, 2024).
